How to Make a Blended Iced Matcha Latte

A blended iced matcha latte is thicker and more frappé-like than a poured iced latte. Dissolve the matcha in a little warm water before blending so the finished drink is smoother.

Ingredients for one serving

  • 1–2 g matcha
  • 30–45 ml warm water
  • 180–240 ml cold milk
  • 1–1½ cups ice
  • Optional sweetener or vanilla

Blend it

  1. Sift the matcha and whisk it with the warm water into a smooth concentrate.
  2. Add the concentrate, milk, ice and optional sweetener to a blender.
  3. Blend just until the ice is fine and the drink is pourable. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  4. Pour immediately; separation and melting are normal as the drink stands.

Get the texture right

Too little ice makes a thin drink, while too much can mute the matcha. A high-powered blender may need less time than a small one. If you want a clear, layered iced latte rather than a frozen texture, whisk the matcha separately, pour it over ice and add cold milk without blending.

Milk, sweeteners and flavored powders change the drink’s calories and allergens. Use the labels for the ingredients you actually choose.
