Matcha is green because it is finely powdered green tea leaf; shade growing, chlorophyll, steaming, milling and storage all affect the final color.

Plain matcha powder is not supposed to be presweetened, but matcha lattes, mixes and chain drinks often add sugar, syrup or sweetened bases.

Pure matcha is powdered tea leaf and is normally vegan as an ingredient, but matcha lattes, collagen blends, candy, toppings and certification claims need separate checks.

Current Starbucks U.S. hot and iced Matcha Latte ingredient data does not show a wheat ingredient in the standard build, but Starbucks does not guarantee unpackaged drinks are allergen-free.

You can drink matcha on an empty stomach if you tolerate it, but it is not the best default for everyone. If it causes nausea, jitters, reflux or stomach discomfort, take it with food, reduce the serving or move it later.

A practical starting ratio is 2 g matcha with about 60 ml, or 2 oz, of water for a concentrated whisked bowl. Use less water for a latte concentrate and more water only when you intentionally want a lighter tea.

To make matcha taste good, fix the variables in order: powder freshness, dose, water temperature, water amount, sifting, whisking, milk and sweetness. Most bad cups are either overheated, overdosed, clumpy, stale or too diluted.

The best time to have matcha is usually morning or early afternoon, but the right timing depends on caffeine sensitivity, meals, iron needs, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and sleep schedule.

To order strawberry matcha at Starbucks, first check whether your store shows Iced Double Berry Matcha or another official strawberry-matcha item. If not, only attempt a custom order when strawberry ingredients are selectable locally.
